Rambling on stream led me to a topic I hope to flesh out in writing soon—the “zero point”—and how the path to the best designs is never adding arbitrary amounts of code to a project forever. Instead, the most powerful, useful, and rock solid solutions are often found surprisingly close to the “zero point”. This can be empirically observed through demoscene and retro development projects.
In an age of millions-of-lines codebases, “10x” development with LLMs, and a decreasing standard for software quality, this felt like an important message to share.
As I say in the video, I hope to have a more rigorous and structured approach to this topic in writing soon.
