Desktop Abstraction and OS Design — Video Discussion w/ Sam Smith
A video call I had with Sam Smith—creator of the Serenum operating system—about fundamental concepts in operating system design pertaining to user-space applications and the desktop environment.
I recently had the pleasure of hopping on a call with Sam Smith, creator of the Serenum operating system, and one of the organizers of the Better Software Conference. We talked about operating system design—specifically, the boundary between operating systems and user-space programs. This was spurred on by a comment I’d made on the subject, applying some of the lessons I’ve learned in designing the RAD Debugger’s visualization engine.
We decided to record the discussion, since we felt it might be fruitful for others to hear. I enjoyed the discussion, and I hope you do too.

I thought this video was very interesting. Scary idea to trust windows to run your program though.

I was wondering if you had seen/have thoughts on Arcan (arcan-fe.com)? The developer seems to be working on a similar set of problems as are being talked about here.
